Lost Ark: How Does the Tripod System Actually Work?
Tripods are a system in Lost Ark that determines how strong a skill is. Each skill carries three tiers of selectable enhancement effects, with levels running from 1 to 5. They sit quietly in the skill menu and are easy to miss, but a one-level difference in a tripod can produce a massive impact on damage. Many players find their damage stalling in the late game, look back, and discover their tripods are still stuck at low levels. That is where the problem lies.

Understand the three-tier structure: a second set of skill upgrades
Tripods attach to every combat skill in three tiers, unlocked by skill level. In effect, they give each skill a second, custom set of upgrades.
- At skill levels 4, 7, and 10, the first, second, and third tripod tiers unlock, and each tier lets you pick only one effect.
- A single skill can hold up to three tripod effects, and they can be swapped freely in the skill menu at any time, with no respec cost.
- Once a tripod effect is transferred into the character's skill talent library, selecting it applies it right away, and it is no longer bound to a specific piece of gear.
- Every tripod starts at level 1. The added damage, cooldown reduction, and range values only grow as the level rises.
Tripods work as a second upgrade panel for skills. Pick the right effects across the three tiers, and the whole feel of a skill changes.
Tripod level is where the real gap opens up
A tripod's value lies entirely in its level. For the same damage effect, level 1 and level 4 can differ by twenty to thirty percent or more, and most players whose damage stalls are stuck exactly there.
- Tripod levels run from 1 to 5, with 1 as the default, and the higher the level, the stronger the numbers.
- In tested guides, the gap between level 1 and level 4 effects commonly falls between 20% and 50%, and it shows most on core skills.
- Tripods with the same name do not stack. The system only counts the highest level, so duplicate low-level effects mean nothing.
- Levels rise through amulet transfer, not through skill usage. Grinding monsters does not level up tripods.
If your damage trails the same class by a notch, check your core skills' tripod levels first. The problem usually lies there, not in the class itself.

Amulet transfer is the only route to leveling tripods
Tripods can only be leveled through amulet transfer. Amulets come from Chaos Dungeons, and you take them to the transfer point in a major city to transfer one effect at a time.
- Amulets mainly drop from Chaos Dungeons and can also be bought on the Auction House. Each amulet carries tripod effects for three skills.
- Each transfer lets you pick only one of those effects, and the amulet is consumed whether it succeeds or fails, on top of a silver cost.
- Amulet quality determines the level you can get out of it: purple gives level 2 to 3, gold gives level 3 to 4, and relic gives level 4 to 5.
- The transfer process has success rates, and reaching level 5 carries a base chance of only 10%. A failure still costs the amulet.
Amulets are pure consumables. Decide which effect you want before transferring. Transferring carelessly only wastes the amulet.
Sage Powder and guaranteed amulets are the reliable route to level 5
Pushing to level 5 on raw base rates burns too many resources. Raising the odds with Sage Powder, or saving up guaranteed amulets, is the steady approach.
- Sage Powder raises transfer success rates and comes from Stronghold crafting or the Auction House. You will want it before attempting level 4 and level 5.
- With Sage Powder applied, level 3 reaches 100%, level 4 reaches 50%, and level 5 reaches 20%, far steadier than transferring without it.
- The Oath, Prayer, Hope, and Wish amulets guarantee a jump to the matching level and come from events or the Legion Commander shop.
- The practical method is to climb gradually with level 4 amulets plus Sage Powder, and save the guaranteed amulets for the hardest core skills.
Level 5 tripods are the finish line, but gambling on raw rates only wastes resources. Sage Powder and guaranteed amulets are the highest-value way to get there.
Tripods are not complicated to work with, and it comes down to three steps: pick the right three-tier effects for your core skills, raise the levels with amulets, and lean on Sage Powder and guaranteed amulets for level 5. The system hides in the skill menu and many players overlook it. Yet with the same gear and the same skill, having the tripod levels in place or not means damage on two completely different levels. Check your main skills' tripods and fill in whichever level is missing. That pays off far better than blindly chasing gear.
