Does Failing a Transcendence Attempt in Legend of Ymir Drop Your Level or Only Cost Materials?

Transcendence is Legend of Ymir's ultimate progression system, covering Valkyries, Disir, and Companions. It consumes duplicate summons of Epic grade or higher as materials and can be upgraded up to three stages. Before clicking that Transcendence button, one question needs a clear answer: if the attempt fails, do you lose the stages you have already earned? The short answer is that failure only costs materials and does not drop your level. But Epic-grade duplicate summons are scarce resources in their own right. How painful is the material loss, and how do you minimize it under the pity system? This article breaks it down from three angles: the consumption mechanics, the value of each stage, and how to use the pity system to your advantage.

The Consumption Mechanics: What Failure Actually Costs You

Transcendence is probability-based. The materials consumed are identical whether you succeed or fail. The only difference is the outcome.

Not losing stages is the most important safety net in the entire transcendence system, but the cost of burning all your materials at high stages is just as real. Do not confirm the attempt until all materials are in place.

Are All Three Stages Worth It?

The effects of each transcendence stage vary by summon type. Valkyries, Disir, and Companions each have their own focus.

Stage 3 is a qualitative leap for all summon types. Valkyries and Disir lean functional, Companions lean numerical. Which one you push to Stage 3 depends on your primary summon type.

How to Spend the Least Materials Under the Pity System

The pity system is now live. After a certain number of consecutive failures, the next attempt is guaranteed to succeed. Transcendence has shifted from pure gambling to a capped investment.

The pity system turns risk from an infinite sinkhole into a calculable range. The core strategy is one line: save enough materials before pushing high stages.

How Transcendence Relates to Other Progression Systems

When viewed within the full progression system, transcendence priority depends on the depth of your summon pool. A Valkyrie or Disir's base rarity and level form the foundation. Transcendence multiplies on top of that. If you have not even filled out your Epic-grade base summons yet, pulling for a wider pool is better value than forcing transcendence. Transcendence does not compete with equipment systems like enhancement and enchantment. Their resources do not overlap. However, consuming duplicate Disir for transcendence directly reduces upgrade room for your Disir Codices, which also require duplicate Disir to increase rarity. For resource allocation, lock in your primary summon first, then concentrate all materials on transcending that one. Spreading materials across multiple summons at once leaves every one of them unfinished.

Failing a transcendence attempt does not drop your level. That is the system's bottom line. But every piece of material you put in is gone for good. The core strategy comes down to three rules. Stage 1 has a high success rate; if you have the materials, go for it. Stage 2 and Stage 3 see success rates plummet; stockpile enough for the pity before you push. Duplicate Epic summons are limited; pick the right primary and focus your resources. Splitting them across multiple targets means none of them reach completion. The pity system has turned transcendence from an endless pit of failed attempts into a capped cost, fundamentally changing the value proposition of high-stage transcendence. If you have spare duplicate Epic summons on hand, hitting Stage 1 for the baseline benefit and saving later stages for when materials are plentiful is the safest route in the current version.
