ZZZ Shiyu Defense Guide
Shiyu Defense is the wall every Zenless Zone Zero player runs into each version, a full clear pays 720 Polychromes, but it demands two teams that can't share characters, and that's exactly where people get stuck. I played it wrong at first too, throwing my strongest squad at it, and I'd cruise the first half only to have nobody left for the second. Once I learned the rules, I realized this mode isn't about who has the flashiest characters, it's about who can read the current buffs and build two complete teams. Here's the scoring, this rotation's environment, team building, and the clear techniques, all in one.

How Shiyu Defense is scored, and what it pays?
The Critical Node now runs five frontiers, each split into two halves that need their own team, and you can't reuse characters across the two sides; the fifth is a special three-room scoring stage.
- Your rank is based on remaining time, faster clears mean a higher S rank, and if you drag past the timer it drops to B and the rewards shrink hard.
- S-ranking all five critical nodes pays 720 Polychromes, which is the whole point of the mode.
- The elemental weaknesses and bonuses rotate about every two weeks, so always read the current stage description before you start.
So don't just charge in blind, take a minute to read the rules, especially which two elements get buffed and which enemies resist what, that one step saves you a lot of grief.
Read this rotation's buffs and enemies first.
This 3.2 rotation leans friendly to anomaly and disorder teams, the three rooms each carry different bonuses, so here are the key bits.
- Room one is for attack and stun, sharp damage is up 20%, stun agents refund energy after clearing normal enemies, and enemies recover from stun slower after a chain attack.
- Room two boosts ice and ether, damage up 25%, anomaly buildup up 15%, and attribute anomalies lower enemy defense.
- Room three boosts fire and electric, damage up 35%, and the post-stun damage multiplier jumps 30%, that's where burst teams shine.
- The water temperature is high this rotation, the top-lane bugs are passive and the bottom-lane enemies shield up fast, so f2p players grind harder than usual.
Once you read this you know who goes where, attack and stun up top, anomaly and disorder on the bottom, get the direction right before you worry about execution.
Build two teams, don't stack every strong card in one.
The classic team-building mistake is cramming your three strongest characters into one squad, so you steamroll the first half and have nothing left for the second. The right way is to keep both teams structurally complete, each one with a damage dealer, a stunner, and a support or defender, each doing its own job. Attack teams are for elites and bosses, burst in the stun window; anomaly and disorder teams are for multi-target fights, keeping the buildup rolling into disorder. If you're stuck, pull a support or stunner off your main team to patch the weak one, sometimes slotting in a generalist like Anby or Nicole does more than forcing in a low-mindscape main DPS.

The clear routine: group, stun, mop up.
When the buffs and teams are sorted, the rest is in your hands, and these clear techniques are ones I earned the hard way.
- Group enemies first, don't chase melee mobs, loop around to the ranged attackers in back and pull everything together before you AoE it down.
- In the final wave, kill the small fries first and leave the elite for last, so a bunch of trash isn't interrupting your stun setup.
- Watch the cues on elites, gold flash means use a defensive assist to parry, red flash means dodge, and a whiff against a big slamming elite will leave you half dead.
The whole loop boils down to break daze on entry, bank resources before the stun, burst inside it, then mop up wave by wave, and once the rhythm settles, the S rank comes on its own.
Shiyu Defense looks like a stat check, but half of it is an information game. Read the rotation's buffs, build two complete teams, and drill the clear routine, and you can full-star it without maxed-out characters, there are even zero-spend full-clear videos for 3.2 on Bilibili. This rotation runs hot, but put attack on the first half and anomaly on the second, then follow the group, stun, mop-up rhythm, and you'll see that floor you've been stuck on was only a breath away. Start by reading the room descriptions, don't skip that step.
