FC 27 Ultimate Team: What's New and What Changed From FC 26
FC 27 is here, and if you're coming over from FC 26, the first thing you'll notice is that a fair amount has quietly changed under the hood. Early access opened on September 18, the full game lands on September 25, and the early players are already working through what's new.
The honest summary is that this year is a reset in more ways than one. The power curve is slower, the reward system leans more tradeable, and there's a new collection system that's worth understanding before you spend your first coins.

The Launch Window and When You Can Play
The rollout has been staggered, and it's worth knowing where you sit in it. The Web App opened on September 16, the Companion App followed on September 17, and early access went live on September 18 for Ultimate and Ultimate Plus Edition owners. EA Play members on console get a 10-hour trial from September 18, while EA Play Pro on PC unlocks unlimited early access.
The full release lands on September 25 on consoles, with PC opening the evening before. If you bought the standard edition, that's your start date. If you're already in through early access, you're a week ahead of the main crowd, which is a real head start in the transfer market.
The market timing matters more than usual this year, because a slower power curve means early cards hold their value longer. The people who get in first are the ones who buy the cheap meta cards before demand spikes.
FUT Gallery and Hall of FUT Are the Big New Systems
The headline feature in Ultimate Team this year is FUT Gallery, and it changes how you think about cards you've already used. Instead of discarding or selling a card into the void, the Gallery lets you collect and immortalize player items that have passed through your club, complete themed sets, and raise your Gallery level for rewards.
Tied to it is the Hall of FUT, a new tier that celebrates memorable Ultimate Team players from past cycles. Early entries lean on cult-hero names rather than current stars, which tells you EA is leaning into the nostalgia angle here.
For a coin-focused player, the practical effect is that cards now have a second life beyond the transfer market. A card you'd normally quick-sell might be worth keeping for a Gallery set, and that's worth factoring in before you dump your club.
What Changed in Ultimate Team Progression
The progression curve got a deliberate slowdown this year, and it shows up in a few places at once:
- The power curve is flatter. EA has dialed back how many top-tier playstyle traits a card can carry, so the very best cards don't run away from the pack as fast
- More rewards are tradeable. Rivals packs in particular are more often tradeable at launch, which is a real change for players who sell everything they don't need
- Matches pay more coins. Rivals, Champions, and Squad Battles all award more coins per match than they did in FC 26, which makes grinding a bit more worth your time
- Champions qualification is easier to reach. The entry bar for the weekly competition is lower than it was, so it takes fewer qualification points to get in
Icon and Hero cards carry more chemistry weight. A Hero card brings full individual chemistry and gives a boost to teammates who share its league and nation, while an Icon card contributes to any league and adds a nation boost, making both easier to slot into a squad without breaking chemistry
None of these are small changes on their own. Taken together, they make the early weeks feel different from FC 26, and they reward players who grind and trade rather than players who just spend.
The Rewards and Objectives Worth Doing First
The first week of FC 27 throws a lot at you, and a few things are worth grabbing before you get distracted by the market:
- Claim your Foundation player. You pick a favorite league early on and get a foundation card for it, which gives your first squad a useful anchor without spending coins
- Take the welcome packs. The three-player Gold packs are the better early choice, because they build a playable starter squad faster than the mixed packs
- Do the basic objectives first. They're not glamorous, but the free coins add up fast, and there's more than 20,000 coins sitting in the simple objective chain
- Check the free Season Pass track. The free track carries several cards this year, mostly untradable special items and loan cards, so it's worth progressing even if you never pay for the pass
The pattern is the same as it always is. Do the free stuff first, build a base of coins and cards, and only then start spending on the market.

What Stays the Same and Where to Focus
For all the new systems, the core loop hasn't changed, and that's the part to keep your attention on. You still build a squad, grind matches, complete SBCs, and trade on the market. The economy still resets the same way, the tax is still 5% on sales, and the early weeks still decide whether you're ahead or behind for the whole cycle.
If you're coming from FC 26, your focus should be on the fundamentals. Build a cheap, playable squad from objectives and welcome packs, learn the new chemistry rules, and get a feel for which cards are moving in the market before you commit real coins. The players who win the early market are the ones who understand what's new, not the ones who spend the most on day one.
The transition from FC 26 to FC 27 is a fresh start, but it's not a foreign country. The rules are mostly the same, the economy is mostly the same, and the same habits that worked before will work again.
