How Do You Survive the Vaporizer's Laser Attack in ARC Raiders?
The first time I ran into a Vaporizer in the Flashpoint update, my entire brain was one sentence: how do you dodge this laser. That beam looks slow, but it tracks you, your shield lasts maybe a few seconds in front of it, and the second you hesitate you're on fire and then you're gone. It took a few deaths to figure out that this thing's laser isn't beaten with reflexes; it's beaten with cover and movement. Here are the key points, all paid for in lives.

The One Rule: Never Fight It in the Open
Every answer to the Vaporizer's lasers points to the same thing: you need hard cover between you and it, because its beam strips medium and heavy shields in seconds and sets you on fire, so without cover you're basically standing in the flames.
- It has to be hard cover, solid walls, big rocks, terrain, anything with real geometry. A thin corner or a half-height crate won't save you; the beam slips through the gap and lights you up anyway.
- Don't stand pressed against your cover. The beam can punch through and burn you, so keep a little distance and only close in once the line is broken.
- Never stand still for more than a second. Its attack rhythm is unpredictable, and standing there is just feeding its lock-on; constant small movement throws off its read on you.
That rule sounds simple, but it's the first thing you forget when you panic. Make finding cover a reflex and you've already survived half the fight.
Three Lasers, Three Completely Different Dodges
The Vaporizer doesn't just have one beam; it has a delayed single-target blast, a fire trail that drags along the ground, and a barrage that hits multiple players at once. Each one is dodged differently.
- The single-target laser locks on and charges first, so the moment it aims at you, break line of sight behind solid cover, don't just duck around a corner, because flimsy geometry will still let it ignite you.
- When the ground fire trail sweeps at you, don't run along the beam's path; run across it, perpendicular, to get out of the line fastest. Racing it just keeps you in the fire.
- The multi-target barrage splits between players, so keep ten meters or so between teammates and the shots spread out instead of everyone eating the same wave.
- Against the long pulse beam, don't sprint straight backward; that keeps you in its tracking lane. Strafing left and right, or pushing toward it, is what breaks the lock.
Figure out which laser you're facing before you move, and you'll waste far less health than flailing around. That one cost me several lives to learn.

Its Shield Is Your Only Window to Breathe
Here's the counterintuitive part: when the Vaporizer's health drops low enough, it raises an energy shield, and while the shield is up it doesn't attack, which makes those few seconds the safest you'll get all fight.
- The instant the shield goes up, recharge, heal, reload, and reposition. Those seven or so seconds are free, so don't waste them on pointless shooting.
- While the shield is up, it's immune to everything, with grenades and seekers getting swallowed whole, so hold your explosives until the shield drops.
- After the shield drops it won't come back for about ten seconds, and that window is when you focus fire on the thrusters or the belly core to bring it down, which is also when the laser threat finally disappears.
The players who survive aren't just dodging the laser, they're using the shield window to turn around and hit the weak points.
The Vaporizer's laser really comes down to one thing: cover. With hard cover you get the whole rhythm, dodge, recharge, wait out the shield, punish the weak points. Without it, no shield lasts more than a few seconds. Next time you run into one, don't think about damage first; look at where you're standing and whether you have somewhere to hide, then decide whether to fight. Don't bunch up, don't run in a straight line, and don't waste explosives while it's shielded. Keep those three in your head and the Vaporizer isn't that scary after all.
