How to Get the Ghillie Suit in Fallout 76
The Ghillie Suit and Ghillie Suit Hood are two cosmetic outfits in Fallout 76. They were originally handed out as rewards from the Survivors event in the Nuclear Winter mode. When that mode shut down, the two outfits became legacy and untradeable, leaving late players with no way to earn them. The Slasher update brought their crafting plans back into the game. During the limited-time Halloween Spooky Scorched event, players can defeat specific Scorched and check their corpses for a chance at the plans. Because the drop rate is low, knowing the target enemies' appearance, the drop rules, and good farming locations makes collecting more efficient.

How the Suit Was Originally Earned
The Ghillie Suit and Ghillie Suit Hood were first unlocked through the Survivors event in Nuclear Winter. Players had to build up Overseer XP and work through the event's progression challenges. As the XP total grew, players unlocked each tier reward and earned the outfits once they met the stated requirement. Unlike standard quest rewards, this route required playing Nuclear Winter to accumulate progress. Since the mode is now retired, the original unlock route is closed, and players must obtain the two outfits through the crafting plans that were later added back to the game.
The original unlock conditions are:
Build Overseer XP: earn Overseer XP through Nuclear Winter gameplay.
Clear the final challenge: reach 14,650 total Overseer XP, then complete the last 2,500-XP challenge to receive the outfits.
Current status: after Nuclear Winter retired, the original method no longer applies. Players who missed the early event must collect the outfits through the route reopened later.
Once The Slasher update reintroduced the crafting plans, players no longer had to rely on the retired Nuclear Winter mode and could try to earn both outfits through the Spooky Scorched event.
The Current Way to Get Them
The crafting plans for the Ghillie Suit and Ghillie Suit Hood can now be earned by defeating specific Spooky Scorched. These enemies wear Pint-Sized Slasher masks, and some players call them Pint-Sized Phantoms.
Keep these conditions in mind:
Join the limited-time event: the target enemies appear during the Spooky Scorched event, which runs around Halloween. Once the event ends, the same farming method is no longer available.
Identify the right targets: focus on Spooky Scorched wearing Pint-Sized Slasher masks. Regular enemies are not the designated source of these two plans.
Check the corpses: after defeating a target, open its corpse inventory to see whether a plan dropped.
Note other sources: these two plans are not regular Atomic Shop items, and they are not part of Minerva's gold bullion inventory.
Because this method depends on the event window, it is best to finish collecting the plans while the event is active.

Drop Rates and How to Check
The Ghillie Suit and Ghillie Suit Hood plans each have about a 5% drop rate, rolled independently, so getting one does not mean the other drops at the same time. Because the rate is low, players may need to defeat the designated enemies many times to collect both plans. While farming, check each enemy's corpse inventory carefully after every fight to see whether the plan appeared. The plans do not show up in Spooky Treat Bags, so do not skip the corpse check while grabbing treat bags.
Follow these steps:
- Find Spooky Scorched wearing Pint-Sized Slasher masks.
- Defeat the target and approach its corpse.
- Open the corpse inventory and check for a Ghillie Suit or Ghillie Suit Hood plan.
- After looting, move on to the next eligible target.
The plans appear directly in the designated enemies' corpse inventories, not in Spooky Treat Bags. Grabbing only the treat bags and skipping the corpse check can cause you to miss the plans. Other related rewards can also drop during the event, such as the Nuclear Winter Letterman Jacket plan at about 5% and three Pint-Sized Slasher advertisement poster plans at roughly 13.33% each.
Recommended Farming Locations and Tips
Spooky Scorched appear in several locations across Appalachia during the Halloween event. Picking areas with dense enemy spawns and checking corpses right after each kill cuts down on backtracking and missed rewards.
Consider these locations and events:
Helvetia: a solid spot for finding Scorched during the event, and it pairs well with a search route through the surrounding areas.
Morgantown Airport: sweep the airport while looking for event enemies, and check each corpse.
Sutton: easy to add to a regular farming route and combine with searches in nearby areas.
Line in the Sand: while taking part in this event, watch for eligible Spooky Scorched.
Collision Course: during the event, check whether the enemies that appear qualify for the plan drops.
To collect efficiently, follow a fixed route and search each area in turn. After a kill, check the corpse before moving to the next spot. If you are still missing the plans, keep hunting eligible enemies until the collection is complete. Once you have the plans, craft the Ghillie Suit and Ghillie Suit Hood at any Armor Workbench. Both outfits are for appearance only and provide no stealth bonus.
Common Questions
Do I need to get the Ghillie Suit and Ghillie Suit Hood separately?
Yes. The Ghillie Suit and Ghillie Suit Hood each have their own crafting plan, with about a 5% drop rate each, so they must be collected separately.
Can I get the ghillie plans from Spooky Treat Bags?
No. The ghillie plans are corpse drops from designated enemies and do not appear in Spooky Treat Bags. After defeating an eligible enemy, check its corpse inventory directly.
Does the ghillie suit improve stealth?
No. Both outfits are cosmetic and provide no stealth bonus. Their main purpose is to change the character's appearance.
Can I still get the plans this way after the event ends?
Not reliably. This method depends on the limited-time Spooky Scorched event, so finish the collection while it is active.
In Fallout 76, earn the Ghillie Suit and Ghillie Suit Hood through the limited-time Spooky Scorched event: find the enemies wearing Pint-Sized Slasher masks and check each corpse. Each plan drops at about 5% and does not appear in Spooky Treat Bags. Plan a farming route in advance, check eligible enemies first, and collect the two plans separately. Once complete, craft the Ghillie Suit and its matching Hood at an Armor Workbench.
