Lost Ark Paladin: Support or DPS?

The Paladin is one of the few classes in Lost Ark that can function as both a support and a DPS, switching between Blessed Aura and Judgment with a simple engraving swap. Most new players pick Paladin based on the class fantasy alone, only to realize later that whether they heal or deal damage comes down to which engraving they equip. The two paths differ completely in mechanics, raid experience, and investment cost. Understanding what each actually delivers before committing beats rerolling after the fact.

Core Mechanical Differences

Support Paladin and DPS Paladin run on two entirely separate sets of logic — this is not a matter of tweaking some numbers and calling it a day.

Gear, gems, and engraving books are largely not shared between the two builds. Switching from support to DPS or vice versa costs about as much as gearing a new character from scratch.

The Support Build in Practice

Support Paladin is one of the most stable support classes in Lost Ark, with extremely high party demand and near-instant group invites.

The satisfaction of playing support Paladin does not come from damage numbers. It comes from watching your party survive mechanics and clear the raid because your buffs kept them alive. Best suited for players who do not care about topping the damage meter.

The DPS Build in Practice

Judgment Paladin's theoretical damage is respectable, but the real-world challenges in raid content are more complicated than what the numbers suggest.

Judgment Paladin is not unplayable — it just demands more effort to achieve what other DPS classes deliver with less investment. Best suited for players committed to the Paladin fantasy and willing to invest the resources to make it a main.

How to Decide

Support Paladin is the most hassle-free choice right now: fast invites, low investment, and while support accessories are not cheap on the auction house, demand is steady and reselling is straightforward. DPS Paladin suits players with a static group or those who do not rely on public lobbies — in a group that knows your output, the class icon bias disappears. Both builds handle daily content and normal legion raids just fine; the real gap shows up in high-end public party finder. If resources only cover one build, support offers demonstrably better value and versatility. With extra resources, building a DPS set as a secondary option for variety is a solid plan.

Choosing between support and DPS Paladin is ultimately a choice between two completely different gameplay experiences. The support path offers low investment, fast invites, and low pressure — ideal for players treating Paladin as a main or a utility alt. The DPS path demands more resources and patience, but delivers a level of mechanical engagement and satisfaction that support simply cannot match. Neither build is objectively better. The only question is whether the cost of the choice is one worth paying.
