POE2: How to Make Currency Fast?
When I first started Path of Exile 2, the thing that tripped me up wasn't dying to bosses. It was having a stash full of currency items I couldn't tell apart, with no idea what to keep and what to dump. One time I blew a whole week's worth of Exalted Orbs rerolling modifiers, then went back to the exchange and realized they're basically loose change in this game, while the Chaos Orbs I'd carelessly tossed into a corner were the ones actually worth something. It took me the better part of a league watching the market before I finally got how this economy actually works. So here are a few of the lessons I paid for, laid out plainly, so you don't grab the wrong end of the stick.

Sort Out the Currency Tiers First
The economy in the sequel runs completely opposite to the first game, and most people trip on that gap right out of the gate.
- Exalted Orbs are loose change. They drop the most and add a modifier to a rare item, so they're worth the least per orb. Treat them like pocket money.
- Chaos Orbs are the mid tier. They reroll modifiers and double as the exchange's pricing unit. One Chaos can get you anywhere from a dozen to several dozen Exalted, more than most people realize.
- Divine Orbs are where you store value. They reroll the numbers on modifiers and are the most stable high-end currency in a league. Saving them beats saving Exalted every time.
I burned myself on this early on, assuming Exalted Orbs were still the hard currency from the first game, so I hoarded a pile that just kept losing value. Eventually it clicked that the sequel flipped the whole "who's cheap and who's expensive" order on its head. Nail this layer down first, and every move you make after it actually pays off.
The Steadiest Sources of Income
Rather than chasing get-rich tricks all day, eat up the most reliable income streams first.
- Run Waystones and sell rare gear for Exalted. Stack a bit of item rarity, list the rares you drop on the exchange, and the volume alone adds up.
- Flip at the Currency Exchange. Post the low-tier currency you're not using and swap for what you're short on. It beats grinding in circles.
- Prioritize Strongboxes, Ritual, and Essence modifiers. These are extra, steady drop sources. Don't skip them.
- Don't miss the early-league window. The first week or two after launch have the messiest prices and the most opportunity. By the time everyone's farming, it's too late.
These sound boring, but the genuinely steady money always comes from this kind of grunt work. I know a player who only runs a few hours a day, and between selling rares and flipping the exchange, they still filled a whole stash tab with Divine Orbs by mid-league. The trick is just doing the simple thing every single day.
The Fine Art of Buying Low and Selling High
The exchange is the best tool this league, and the people who know how to work it can live off it alone.
- Perfect Chaos Orbs have a weekend rhythm. They're cheap on weekends and pricier mid-week, and the timing gap stays reliable.
- Ride the exchange rate swings. Currencies drift against each other constantly, so buy low and sell high in small bites. It adds up.
Perfect Chaos Orbs are a higher-tier currency added in a later patch. They remove one modifier from a rare item and add a new one with a guaranteed minimum level of 50, which makes them fairly advanced crafting material. Their price tracks player activity: weekends see more supply, so they dip, and weekdays nudge them back up. Just watch the exchange fees on this kind of flip, or you'll hand the whole margin right back.

Efficiency Is Where the Real Gap Is
In the same hour, one player pulls in three Chaos Orbs and another pulls in thirty. It isn't luck, it's efficiency.
- Pair Precursor Tablets with Lost Towers, stack the good modifiers, then run. The drops climb fast.
- Sink your Atlas passive points into drops, not into whatever looks cool.
- Stack item rarity wherever you can. That's a real, tangible bonus.
- Run T15 and T16 six-mod rare Waystones whenever possible. More modifiers, fatter loot.
Put simply, farming currency comes down to effective drops per hour. Once you've stacked gear, passives, and tablets, the same Waystone can return several times over. Don't shrug off the prep work; the profit curve is stretched out by exactly these little details.
At the end of the day, there's nothing fancy about making currency in the sequel. Lock in the three-tier order of Exalted, Chaos, and Divine, put your Waystones, the exchange, and your tablets to work, and what's left is just consistency and patience. I've seen too many people try to skip to the end and end up blowing everything gambling on modifiers. The ones who actually get rich are the ones who do the boring fundamentals well. If you've got a money route of your own this league, I'd love to hear it. Maybe we can fill in each other's gaps.
