How to Build Your Bangboos?

In the combat system of Zenless Zone Zero, Bangboos are far from just adorable mascots—they are a core piece of the puzzle that directly dictates your team's ceiling. During the early-game progression, many players fall into the habit of dumping all their resources into Agents, W-Engines, and Drive Discs while neglecting the Bangboo by their side. In reality, a well-invested Bangboo not only patches up your damage output but also provides crucial anomaly buildup, crowd control, healing, and invaluable energy generation buffs.

Laying the Groundwork: Don't Let Your Bangboo's Level Drag You Down

Base stats dictate the ceiling. While a Bangboo’s stats don't directly boost your agents' stat screens, their active skill damage, shield capacity, and healing output are entirely determined by their own level.

When leveling up your Bangboos, focus on these straightforward steps:

In the long run, focusing your valuable resources on two or three core Bangboos yields far better returns than keeping everyone mediocre.

Activating the Core: Chain Attacks and Additional Abilities Make the Difference

What truly makes a Bangboo shine on the battlefield is its kit. Their skills are generally split into Active Skills, Chain Attacks, and Additional Abilities—which serve as the real differentiator for your team's output.

Core Mechanics Breakdown:

You don't need to max out every single skill. For burst-heavy teams, prioritize maxing out Chain Attacks and damage-focused Active Skills. If you are running an attribute-specific Anomaly team, focus on skills that accelerate anomaly buildup.

Synergy Over Rarity: Ditch the Star-Chasing

Blindly chasing gold S-Tier Bangboos isn't always the smart play. In real combat, how well a Bangboo's kit synergizes with your team is the ultimate metric for success. You can choose your Bangboo based on these common team archetypes:

Mono-Element or Attribute Anomaly Teams:

Instead of forcing an S-Tier Bangboo whose Additional Ability you can't even trigger, you're much better off running an A-Tier Bangboo that gets its full passive. The actual combat returns are night and day.

Avoiding the Resource Trap: Say No to "Equal Opportunity" Leveling

Early game progression is incredibly resource-intensive as you juggle agents, W-Engines, and Drive Discs all at once. When it comes to Bangboo resources, keep it strictly minimalist:

Late-Game Fine-Tuning: Teching for High-Difficulty Content

Once you hit the end-game and tackle challenges like Shiyu Defense, rigid team setups will eventually hit a wall. This is when you need to start swapping your Bangboos dynamically based on the encounter:

Building your Bangboos is a low-investment, high-return venture. While these round little companions don't directly pump up your raw character sheet stats, they frequently act as the deciding factor in clutch, high-stakes endgame fights where room for error is razor-thin. By systematically leveling two or three targeted Bangboos that fit your main rosters, you'll find your endgame clears becoming infinitely smoother.
