How to Build Your Bangboos?
In the combat system of Zenless Zone Zero, Bangboos are far from just adorable mascots—they are a core piece of the puzzle that directly dictates your team's ceiling. During the early-game progression, many players fall into the habit of dumping all their resources into Agents, W-Engines, and Drive Discs while neglecting the Bangboo by their side. In reality, a well-invested Bangboo not only patches up your damage output but also provides crucial anomaly buildup, crowd control, healing, and invaluable energy generation buffs.
Laying the Groundwork: Don't Let Your Bangboo's Level Drag You Down
Base stats dictate the ceiling. While a Bangboo’s stats don't directly boost your agents' stat screens, their active skill damage, shield capacity, and healing output are entirely determined by their own level.
When leveling up your Bangboos, focus on these straightforward steps:
- Break Through Level Caps: Use system chips and experience materials to raise their level. The moment you hit a milestone cap, break through immediately to unlock higher stat ceilings.
- Funnel Resources to Your Main Teams: Avoid spreading your resources too thin early on. Save your limited materials for the core Bangboos of your primary and secondary teams.
- Align Upgrades With Team Needs: Attack, anomaly, and survival-focused teams require completely different Bangboo stats, meaning your leveling priorities should shift accordingly.
In the long run, focusing your valuable resources on two or three core Bangboos yields far better returns than keeping everyone mediocre.
Activating the Core: Chain Attacks and Additional Abilities Make the Difference
What truly makes a Bangboo shine on the battlefield is its kit. Their skills are generally split into Active Skills, Chain Attacks, and Additional Abilities—which serve as the real differentiator for your team's output.
Core Mechanics Breakdown:
- Active Skill: A frequently triggered ability that provides sustained damage, crowd control, or healing.
- Chain Attack: Triggered alongside your agents' chain attacks, serving as a key link in your burst damage windows.
- Additional Ability (High Priority): Usually requires specific factions (e.g., Cunning Hares, Belobog Heavy Industries) or specific attributes (e.g., Ice, Electric) in your active squad to trigger. This is the soul of your Bangboo's synergy.
You don't need to max out every single skill. For burst-heavy teams, prioritize maxing out Chain Attacks and damage-focused Active Skills. If you are running an attribute-specific Anomaly team, focus on skills that accelerate anomaly buildup.
Synergy Over Rarity: Ditch the Star-Chasing
Blindly chasing gold S-Tier Bangboos isn't always the smart play. In real combat, how well a Bangboo's kit synergizes with your team is the ultimate metric for success. You can choose your Bangboo based on these common team archetypes:
Mono-Element or Attribute Anomaly Teams:
- Prioritize attribute-specific Bangboos (like Plugboo or Rocketboo). Their primary job is to accelerate elemental anomaly buildup, helping you trigger Disorder or Attribute Anomalies much faster.
- Faction-Locked Teams:
- Opt for faction-specific Bangboos (like Amillion or Butler). These Bangboos easily trigger their Additional Abilities, granting solid percentage damage buffs or highly valuable energy generation.
- Survival and High-Utility Teams:
- Go for utility-focused Bangboos (like Avocaboo or Magnetiboo). When pushing high-difficulty content where survival is tough, the healing or shielding they provide can be absolute lifesavers.
Instead of forcing an S-Tier Bangboo whose Additional Ability you can't even trigger, you're much better off running an A-Tier Bangboo that gets its full passive. The actual combat returns are night and day.
Avoiding the Resource Trap: Say No to "Equal Opportunity" Leveling
Early game progression is incredibly resource-intensive as you juggle agents, W-Engines, and Drive Discs all at once. When it comes to Bangboo resources, keep it strictly minimalist:
- Don't Build for Collection's Sake: Just because you pulled a new Bangboo doesn't mean you need to level it. If you don't have a built team that fits its synergy, leave it at level 1.
- Set Progression Milestones: Keeping your core Bangboos at level 40 is perfectly fine for the mid-game. Once your main agents are fully geared with maxed Drive Discs, circle back to max out your primary Bangboos.
- Milk the Event Rewards: Limited-time in-game events frequently hand out generous amounts of Bangboo materials and even free Bangboos. Plan your progression around these events to save precious Battery Charge.
Late-Game Fine-Tuning: Teching for High-Difficulty Content
Once you hit the end-game and tackle challenges like Shiyu Defense, rigid team setups will eventually hit a wall. This is when you need to start swapping your Bangboos dynamically based on the encounter:
- Countering Enemy Weaknesses: If an endgame stage features enemies weak to Fire, bringing a Bangboo that excels at applying Fire anomaly can drastically shave down your clear times—even if your main DPS isn't a pure Fire agent.
- Survival vs. Damage Trade-offs: When dealing with heavy-hitting bosses where your agents are prone to getting one-shot, swap out your pure offensive Bangboos for ones that offer crowd control or healing. You can't DPS if you're dead.
- Adapting to the Meta: As new characters and factions join the roster, bench-warming Bangboos can suddenly skyrocket in value due to new synergy combinations. Stay flexible and adjust your long-term pull and build plans accordingly.
Building your Bangboos is a low-investment, high-return venture. While these round little companions don't directly pump up your raw character sheet stats, they frequently act as the deciding factor in clutch, high-stakes endgame fights where room for error is razor-thin. By systematically leveling two or three targeted Bangboos that fit your main rosters, you'll find your endgame clears becoming infinitely smoother.
