FC 26 World's Game Update: The 48-Team International Tournament Explained
FC 26 launched in September 2025, and its big international update arrived the following summer. Called The World's Game, it went free on May 28, 2026, adding a full 48-team international tournament, a deep list of licensed national teams, new stadiums, and a free Pelé ICON for Ultimate Team players. A lot of players filed it under World Cup mode and moved on, but there is more to it than a single tournament bracket. If you missed it when it dropped, here is what actually got added and why it is still worth opening the game for.

What the World's Game Update Actually Is
The update shipped free for FC 26 and FC Mobile on May 28, 2026, with the tournament itself going live on June 4. It is built for the summer international season, and while it does not carry the official World Cup branding or license, it clearly borrows both the format and the mood. That is a meaningful distinction, because you get the 48-team structure and the real national sides, but the cup itself goes by its own name. For a free patch, the scale is bigger than most people expected, and it arrived at exactly the moment everyone was in an international football mood.
The 48-Team Format, Step by Step
The tournament mirrors the expanded World Cup format, and it plays out the same way in the dedicated mode and inside Career Mode.
- 48 teams are split into 12 groups of four, with each side playing three group matches.
- The top two from every group advance, plus the eight best third-placed teams.
- From there it goes into a Round of 32 and runs all the way to the final.
- Tiebreakers follow the usual order: points, head-to-head result, goal difference, goals scored, then fair play points, where yellow and red cards count against you.
That last one matters more than you might think, because a card-heavy group stage can quietly cost you a knockout spot when two sides finish level on everything else.
The National Teams and New Stadiums
The team list is the strongest part of the update. There are 53 fully licensed national teams, and 41 of them are the actual sides playing the real summer 2026 tournaments.
- Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Spain, Portugal, and Germany are all in.
- Mexico, the United States, Canada, Uruguay, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia round out the bigger names.
- There are also some surprises, with Cape Verde and Uzbekistan getting a run.
Bosnia and Herzegovina and DR Congo start with generic kits until their authentic ones arrive, which is a small note for people who care about that sort of thing. Kick-Off mode goes even further, opening up roughly 60 nations for custom matches. On the stadium side, Gillette Stadium and BMO Field come in, plus a new fictional ground called Central Maw that was built specifically to capture the feel of a big international night.
Career Mode Lets You Take a National Team From the Start
This is not just a one-off tournament mode. Career Mode got the same 48-team structure, and you can now start a fresh save managing a national team right from the beginning. National team saves come with their own season objectives, and there are End of Season Live Starting Points that let you jump in just before the tournament kicks off. The national team save also changes the rhythm of a Career, because the squad is picked for you rather than bought, which pushes you to work with what a country actually produces. If you have ever wanted to do a proper international manager run without simming through three club seasons to get there, this update is the first time FC 26 really lets you do it cleanly.

Ultimate Team Got the Festival of Football
Ultimate Team players did not get left out. The update added a Festival of Football event with a free 93-rated Pelé ICON card for anyone who logged in during the window, plus three special evolutions to work through. The login window ran from June 5 to July 24, 2026, so if you skipped it, that particular Pelé has already gone. What stuck around is the bigger signal: even late into its cycle, FC 26 kept handing out free content instead of winding down early.
The World's Game update is the kind of free content that makes a late-cycle FC title worth revisiting. A real 48-team international tournament, 53 licensed national sides, national team saves in Career Mode, and a free ICON for Ultimate Team is a lot for a patch that cost nothing. If you already own FC 26, it is a good reason to boot it back up, and if you have been thinking about picking the game up late, this update is the proof that there is still plenty in it.
