Diablo 4 Gold Farming Guide
Gold is the quiet bottleneck in Diablo 4. You need it for enchanting, masterworking, rerolling affixes, and buying gear off other players, and it disappears faster than most people expect. The good news is that making gold is not complicated once you know where it actually comes from. Here is how to farm it efficiently, from the basics up to the methods that pull in real money.

Sell Legendaries Without Greater Affixes
The biggest gold leak in Diablo 4 is the salvage habit. A lot of players still follow the rule from launch, where you sold your yellow Rares and salvaged everything orange. That stopped being right back in Season 4, when Loot Reborn pushed Rare items out of endgame entirely. The game never tells you to change course. You just stop seeing yellows drop, and if you keep filtering everything orange into the salvage pile, you leave a lot of gold on the table.
- When you need materials, salvage your Legendaries and Uniques. That is where masterworking and tempering materials come from.
- When you need gold, sell the Legendaries and Uniques that do NOT have a Greater Affix. They vendor for far more than the old yellow items ever did.
- Keep anything with a Greater Affix. Those are the pieces worth trading or building around.
On top of the base gold from selling, grab a Greed shrine whenever one shows up, and spend your Smoldering Ashes on the gold Season Blessing while a season is running. Those are the only meaningful gold multipliers left; there is no gold gem, and the old gold-find gear affix is not worth building around anymore.
Helltides and Whispers Are the Steady Core
If you want reliable gold without thinking too hard, Helltides and Whispers of the Dead are the answer.
- Helltides are dense and fast. Kill elites, collect Aberrant Cinders, and spend them on Tortured Gift chests, then sell everything that drops.
- Whispers of the Dead reward you for completing Grim Favors. Turn in ten and the Tree of Whispers hands you a Whisper Cache full of gold, gear, and materials.
The trick is to do both at once. Most Helltide kills count toward Whispers objectives, so you get paid twice for the same monsters. That overlap is the most efficient solo route in the game, and it works at almost any gear level, which is why it stays relevant from early endgame all the way up.
Nightmare Dungeons and Infernal Hordes
These two are where the more structured farming lives, and their roles have shifted over time.
Nightmare Dungeons are no longer about glyph experience. Since Season 4, that moved to the Pit. What they give you now is a steady stream of masterworking and tempering materials, plus the odd unlock, and they are still a fine place to gather sellable drops. They just are not the glyph leveling ground they used to be.
Infernal Hordes is a wave-based mode, and its Spoils of Gold chest is the single strongest source of raw system gold in the game. You collect Burning Aether during the fight, spend it at the end, and the gold chest turns one full run into a big lump sum. If pure gold from the game itself is your only goal, this beats both Helltides and the Tree of Whispers.
The Pit and Boss Runs
Two endgame sources, now clearly split.
The Pit is where glyph experience lives. If you want your glyphs leveled, this is the place, and the gold it drops is just a side bonus while you do it. Run tiers you can clear quickly rather than pushing your ceiling.
Boss runs are about farming Uniques. Duriel, Andariel, and the other endgame bosses drop gear people want, and either you use it or you sell it. The catch is the summoning materials, which you have to farm first, so treat boss runs as a way to convert materials into sellable items rather than a pure gold tap. Those same materials are worth something on their own, either as a cost you skip or as an item you sell.

Trading Is Where the Real Money Is
Every method so far is about selling to the game. Selling to other players is a different league, and it is where the serious gold lives.
Items with Greater Affixes are the headline, but they are not the only thing that moves. Boss summoning materials and Runes are both reliable hard currency right now, and they convert to gold fast because demand never dries up. Trade happens through Discord servers and third-party sites like diablo.trade, not an in-game auction house, so you have to learn what is in demand and list it yourself.
The honest tradeoff is that trading needs market knowledge and patience. A random drop can be worth more than a whole night of Helltides, but only if you recognize it. For most players, the smart setup is to run the steady farms and sell anything valuable on the side.
The short version: sell the Legendaries without Greater Affixes, stack Helltides on top of Whispers, spend Horde Aether on the gold chest, level glyphs in the Pit, and sell your best drops and materials to players instead of vendors. Do that and the gold stops being a bottleneck.
