POE2 Titan vs Warbringer: Which Melee Should You Actually Pick
Titan or Warbringer, which one do you go with? I've been asked that question since the day I started POE2, and I've respecced between the two ascendancies more times than I can count. At first I took Titan for the easy route, figuring it was tanky and hard to kill. Then I got bored, swapped to Warbringer, and realized these two aren't the same melee at all. The worst part is how many people compare them like one is strictly better than the other, when really they're playing two completely different hands. So let me lay out what I've learned from a few seasons of messing around.

Titan: Where "Simple" and "Damage" Get Bolted Together
Let's start with Titan. A lot of people's first reaction is "it's tanky," and that's true, but the part that really makes it good isn't the defense. It's that it ties the skill floor and the damage ceiling onto the same rope.
- On the survival side, Mysterious Lineage gives 15% more maximum life plus regen, and Stone Skin adds another 50% more armor from your body armor. Stack those together and Titan has one of the highest HP ceilings in the game, which means the lowest chance of getting one-shot at full health.
- On the damage side, Crushing Impacts makes all your hits count as crushing blows and adds 25% more damage against heavily stunned enemies. Pair that with Earthbreaker's 25% chance to trigger an aftershock, and bossing often turns into one big heavy-hitting combo that just deletes the thing.
- Hulking Form is the one people sleep on. It boosts the effect of small passive skills by 50%, which basically fattens up your entire tree, and the further you go, the more it pays off.
So Titan just feels steady. Simple rotation, high forgiveness, and it plays comfortably whether you're new or on Hardcore. My first league on it, the biggest win was dying way less, and even with mediocre gear I wasn't getting sent back to base every five minutes.
Warbringer: The Warcry Corpse-Explosion Machine
Warbringer is a completely different animal. Its core isn't tanking, it's the Warcaller's Bellow line, a mechanic where one shout detonates every corpse on the field.
- Warcaller's Bellow makes your warcries detonate corpses for 25% of their maximum life as physical damage, and on top of that it removes all your warcry cooldowns. The denser the pack, the harder the blast, and one shout can wipe the whole screen.
- That corpse-explosion engine really starts to shine around Act 5, and the leveling and map-clear speed is where it outpaces Titan. The chain reactions snowball, and it just keeps getting more satisfying.
- It also has two side routes in totems and block. Turtle Charm raises your block cap to 75%, and Wooden Wall shunts 20% of incoming damage onto your totems, so a stand-and-tank setup is genuinely on the table.
The tradeoff is it's a lot busier than Titan. Warcries, totems, positioning, all of it needs your attention, and the moment your hands get scrambled the rhythm falls apart. When I respecced to Warbringer, clearing maps was genuinely fun, but single-target bossing just didn't have that one-punch pressure Titan brings.

So Which One: It Depends What You Want This League
So there's no clean answer here. It's not about which one is stronger, it's about which kind of content you actually want to run right now.
- If you want a smooth league start, endgame bossing, or a Hardcore run, go Titan. Its HP and simple rotation will save you from a lot of painful lessons.
- If you want fast mapping, love the chain-explosion feel of warcry corpse blasting, or want to run totems or a block setup, go Warbringer.
- Don't treat them as a hierarchy. They're two completely different melee styles: Titan outlasts, Warbringer outpaces, and each has its own high.
One more thing a lot of people don't realize: since 0.5.0 you can switch your ascendancy. Refund all your ascendancy points with gold, then run a trial again to the altar, and you can re-ascend into the other one. So my advice is don't agonize over it. Pick one by feel, and when you get bored, try the other. The cost isn't that high.
After all these leagues, I've honestly stopped stressing over the choice. Neither Titan nor Warbringer is flat-out stronger, they just fit different kinds of play. Want a build that's simple, tough, and never flinches at a boss? Titan. Want to blast through maps and enjoy the feeling of one shout popping a whole pack? Warbringer. If you genuinely can't decide, start the league on Titan, then once your gear is online and you're feeling comfortable, respec into Warbringer for a change of pace. On the melee path, which one you pick matters less than just getting out there and playing.
