How to Get the Final Word in Fallout 76?
Final Word is a unique legendary .50 caliber machine gun added to Fallout 76 in the Wastelanders update. Unlike most legendary gear, which comes from legendary enemy drops or legendary crafting, Final Word is a guaranteed reward for completing the questline of the ally Beckett. The weapon carries three fixed legendary effects, and two of them—Anti-Armor and 25% Faster Fire Rate—suit the sustained output of a .50 caliber machine gun especially well, making it a natural fit for heavy gunner builds. For a player just starting a heavy gunner character, Final Word is a weapon with a clear acquisition route and dependable stats. The one thing to watch during the process is the reward level. Beckett's questline can begin around level 20, but the level of the Final Word you receive is set by your character's level when you claim the reward. If you want the level 45 version, hold off on the final quest until your character reaches level 45.

Final Word's Stats and Effects
Final Word's strength comes from its fixed legendary effects, so there is no need to reroll for random ones. The weapon carries Anti-Armor, which ignores 50% of a target's armor and performs well against enemies with high damage resistance. Its second effect, 25% Faster Fire Rate, raises the rate of fire so the .50 caliber machine gun keeps its damage output up during sustained fire. The third effect grants +250 damage resistance while reloading, adding a measure of survivability during reloads.
Final Word ships with the Heavy Barrel already attached, along with a 250-round magazine, a fire rate of 114, and a range of 204. Combined with .50 ammunition being relatively easy to keep stocked, the weapon lends itself to long stretches of continuous fire. Final Word's real value is not any single standout stat but the stability of its level, its legendary effects, and its base configuration. Once you have the level 45 version, it works as a daily driver for heavy gunner builds, or as your main weapon until you trade up to a higher-tier legendary.
Completing Beckett's Questline
Everything about obtaining Final Word runs through the questline of the ally Beckett. After reaching level 20, head to Rollins Labor Camp in the Ash Heap and pick up the quest Narrow Escape. Once you finish it and rescue Beckett, complete An Eagle Flies Free. After that, set him up at your C.A.M.P. and build a bar for him—until you do, he will not offer follow-up quests. From there, work through Beckett's ally missions one by one. These cover investigation, combat, and rescue tasks, and after enough of them the final quest Thicker Than Water unlocks.
Thicker Than Water: The Final Quest
Thicker Than Water takes place in Watoga Underground. Once inside, follow the objectives to find the terminal and use it to open the garage door. Continue along the rail tracks until you reach The Claw. The Claw has a direct connection to Beckett, so the dialogue choices in this quest affect how it ends. If you want to claim Final Word along this questline, talk The Claw down and spare him. After the quest, return to your C.A.M.P. and speak with Beckett again to wrap up the line. At that point, Final Word and a piece of three-star legendary armor are added to your inventory as the quest reward. Final Word is a fixed quest reward, so you are not at the mercy of random legendary enemy drops.
Why Wait Until Level 45 to Finish
While working toward Final Word, keep in mind that the reward level scales with your character's level. Beckett's questline can start at level 20, but Final Word does not lock to the level you started at. When you claim the reward, your character's level determines the weapon level you receive. The highest level for Final Word is 45. If you finish Thicker Than Water while your character is in their 30s, the Final Word you get will match that lower level. The legendary effects stay the same, but base damage and other stats are affected by the weapon's level.
So the smart approach is to complete the earlier parts of the questline, then leave Thicker Than Water until your character hits level 45. That way you get the level 45 Final Word straight away. Also, the final reward from Beckett's questline is not an ordinary drop you can farm repeatedly. If you end up with a low-level Final Word, you cannot simply redo the same questline to claim another one. Checking your character's level before turning in the final quest is therefore essential. Once you have Final Word, it is worth holding on to it rather than selling or scrapping it before you are sure you have no use for it. If you plan to run a heavy gunner build, keep the weapon around as a long-term piece of gear.

Perk Cards and the Heavy Gunner Setup
Final Word fits best in a heavy gunner build, so the three Strength perk cards—Heavy Gunner, Expert Heavy Gunner, and Master Heavy Gunner—form the core of its damage. With all three ranked up, non-explosive heavy weapons deal noticeably more damage, and these three cards are among the highest-value picks for a character who uses Final Word as their main weapon. If you fight in power armor, add Stabilized under Intelligence; it improves heavy weapon accuracy while in power armor and adds armor penetration, which stacks well with Final Word's Anti-Armor effect. For utility, Lock and Load and One Gun Army are solid choices depending on your needs—Lock and Load shortens heavy weapon reloads, while One Gun Army adds limb damage and stagger. If you want a further general damage increase, Bloody Mess is worth adding.
Mod Choices for Final Word
Final Word comes with the Heavy Barrel already installed, so there is little reason to touch the barrel. The receiver is the one mod worth considering. If you want extra damage against Scorchbeasts and Scorched, go with the Prime Receiver. It switches the weapon to Ultracite .50 ammunition, so check your ammo reserves and your day-to-day needs before installing it. The plan for the Prime Receiver drops from the Scorchbeast Queen event rather than being sold by regular vendors. If you mostly run daily quests, events, and regular enemies, you will find the stock configuration already covers most situations—there is no rush to swap to the Prime Receiver for a single higher damage number. If you fight Scorchbeasts often or spend a lot of time on Scorchbeast Queen, the Prime Receiver earns its place.
The Route to Final Word
The route, step by step:
- Reach level 20.
- Travel to Rollins Labor Camp.
- Complete Narrow Escape.
- Complete An Eagle Flies Free.
- Set Beckett up at your C.A.M.P.
- Finish his follow-up quests.
- Unlock Thicker Than Water.
- Reach level 45.
- Complete the final quest and claim Final Word.
The most important point is not to finish the final quest too early. The Beckett questline can start at level 20, but if your goal is the level 45 Final Word, hold off on the reward until level 45. Final Word's acquisition is straightforward—no farming random drops, no hunting for specific effects through legendary crafting. Complete Beckett's ally questline and the fixed reward is yours.
For a heavy gunner character, Final Word serves as a dependable .50 caliber machine gun. Anti-Armor provides steady armor penetration, 25% Faster Fire Rate improves sustained fire, and together with Heavy Gunner, Expert Heavy Gunner, Master Heavy Gunner, and Stabilized, the weapon covers daily quests, events, and high-level enemies alike. If you are building a heavy gunner, you can start Beckett's questline early—just leave Thicker Than Water until after level 45. Confirming your character's level before claiming the reward is the single most important step toward getting the max-level Final Word.
